Leader’s path in 2021: Learning of the first 1,5 months

I haven’t written for a while.

To be frank, I didn’t know what to say. Or better say I didn’t know what tone to choose.

I didn’t want to sound negative or depressive. 2021 started with so much pain moving through my clients, through me, and through this world in general. We all entered 2021 with hope and ended up in the “same old-same old.” Disappointment pilled up, emotions that we were holding back pilled up, as well as a denial ”life is great, amazing, fantastic, excellent!”.

I also didn’t want to sound like a fortune cookie “it shall all pass, and we should use this space to grow and move to our new level of consciousness.” Despite the fact I totally believe this is true (with a minor discussion on the term “pass”), this tone also sounded like denial. Everything is normal; everything is alright.

At the end of the day, I believe this is true — today and going forward in 2021, we might find ourselves in these emotional swings between “everything is unfolding the way it needs to unfold, and the surroundings are helping me to grow” and “grief, disappointment, anger, etc. states” (you name it).

Since I am an executive coach, I guess here comes the punchline for the leaders out there reading me. And here it is.

  • Accept what you need to accept. Truly accept, emotionally, physically, and mentally.
  • Buckle up; you will not be the only one going through those swings, and since you lead, you might become not only a support system but also an outlet for others to release whatever is “making them busy.”
  • Take care of yourself. Fiercely take care of yourself, get a support system (mentors, coaches, mastermind groups), redefine what fuels you, prioritize energy gaining activities.
  • Allow yourself to be less than perfect. It is alright. We are all in this together.

And last but not least.

  • Ask yourself, what growth path is this situation creating for you? What is the meaning of it for you personally?

When we find the meaning, we see the path and the strength to walk it.

Hugging you.
